Chickadee Hockey League Inaugural Super "C" League Opening Weekend

The CHL’s Super "C" League got off to a great start Sunday morning with an exciting opening weekend. Although many of the players had just met and hadn’t skated together before, both games showed solid passing and team chemistry, much to the delight of the fans.

In between games, a successful Chuck-a-Puck event was held, adding a bit of fun for those in attendance. The league plans to hold more of these types of events throughout the season.

Looking ahead to the second weekend, Team Red takes on Team Green as both teams look to get their first win. Meanwhile, Team Grey and Team Blue, the Week 1 winners, will face off in what should be a competitive tilt.

Team Blue Wins, But Team Green Shows Promise

The opening week of the CHL Super "C" League saw Team Blue secure an 8-1 victory, but Team Green showed plenty of potential despite the scoreline. Drew Kelly netted Team Green’s lone goal in the second period, set up by a fantastic assist from Andrew Squires after a well-executed defensive play, giving them momentum after a hard-fought first period where both teams were held scoreless.

While Team Blue's offense was on fire, Tom Caruso (4G), Ken Hallee (2G,3A), Nick Lamartina of Team Green stood tall in net, making 29 saves and keeping his team in the game. Team Green also put on a stronger offensive effort in the third, with 11 shots on goal, all turned aside by Team Blue’s goalie Felicia Griffin.

As both teams continue to develop, Team Green’s solid play and improving teamwork are sure to make them a competitive force in upcoming games. Week 2 looks promising as they seek their first win. Team Blue looks to continue their success and double their wins in Week #2.

Team Grey Tops Team Red 4-1

In a hard-fought battle on September 8, 2024, at William B. Troubh Ice Arena, Team Grey secured a 4-1 win over Team Red in Week 1 of the CHL Super "C" League. Team Grey came out strong in the first period, scoring three unanswered goals to take early control of the game.

Cody Griffith, Scott Audet, and Mark Crowell all found the back of the net in the first period, with Evan Kleene adding a fourth goal early in the second. Despite Team Red’s offensive push, Bill Reed, the 1st star of the game, was stellar in goal for Team Grey, making 26 saves and allowing only one goal in the third.

Team Red finally broke through when Andrew Souza scored off assists from James Talka and Sarah Lord in the third period, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Team Red outshot Team Grey 27-12, especially turning up the pressure in the third period with 13 shots on goal.
