Whalers Complete Comeback In Exciting Overtime Win Against Yosaku
William B. Troubh Ice Arena: In a thrilling Route 1 Conference Championship game on August 28, 2024, the Whalers secured a dramatic 5-4 overtime victory against Yosaku at the William B. Troubh Ice Arena. This win propels the Whalers into the Summer 24' Elite B Championship, where they will face off against Rick's Danglers.
The Whalers opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Gavin Simopoulos, assisted by Dale Campbell and Griffin Auch. The momentum continued into the second period as Owen Dubois extended the lead to 2-0. However, Yosaku responded fiercely, scoring four unanswered goals in the second period, including a nifty shot under the bar game-tying goal by Bob Macdonald, shortly followed by a steal and wraparound go-ahead goal from Nate Guerin.
Heading into the third period, the Whalers found themselves down 4-2 but were determined not to go down quietly. Griffin Auch took control, scoring twice to level the game at 4-4. The game then headed into overtime, where Heath Mclean emerged as the hero, scoring the game-winner at 6:07 of the extra period.
